What’s actual location of the job ?: Dev is living in a single family home with his parents in Laurel Meadows Subdivision ( 1.5 mile from Lee Davis High School) in Mechanicsville area of Hanover County.

Are you looking for more than one tutor ?: Yes.

What types of flexible timings are available?: Dev needs at least 2 to 3 hours of tutoring almost every day including weekens and holidays. You are expected to work during weekdays starting anywhere between 03.30 PM and 04.30 PM for 2 to 3 hours. So usually it would be either 03.30 PM to 06.30 PM or 04.30 PM to 07.30 PM.

I can not work for 3 hours, is it 2 hours of tutoring is okay with you ?: Yes, it is okay. In the beginning, we expect you to start working with Dev for 2 hours a day , and gradually build up more hours with Dev.

I heard tutoring word lot , tell me exactly what do you really expect in the tutoring session ?

First of all, you will be working with Dev 1:1 ( one on one) . Dev’s parents will always be at home, but not with you 100% of time. You are expected to work on Dev on following skills.

Help him in activity of daily living.
Teach Dev how to ride a bike, play appropriately with toys etc.
Teach Dev extremely basic academic skills like how to do simple puzzle, imitation etc. Dev does not respond to normal teaching methods, hence we use Applied Behavior Analysis instructional approach. You are expected to work with Dev using ABA as one of the instructional methodology. Since Dev is at home, it provides opportunity for incidental learning or learning in a context of environment. Such as Dev does not take the shoe off while entering in his bed room, tutor should prompt him to take the shoe off etc. If you are not trained in ABA we will arrange a training for you.
Watch Dev while he plays on trampoline /swing in a back yard.
Take him for a short walk in our neighborhood.

Do I have to work everyday? Can I work 2-3 times a week? Can I just work on weekends?: You do not need to work every day. You can work 2-3 times a week. Just weekends are also okay.

Would I be able to take a few days/weeks off?: Of course, you can.

Seems like extremely easy job , isn’t it ?: If you are just coming for money but never ever have a desire to work with a child with disability or Autism. Please do not consider even applying. You will be really playing with parent’s emotion. We really want enthusiastic, reliable, energetic, responsible individuals to work with Dev and not a warm body to fill the space. This is not a pure babysitting job.

I am not sure whether I can do it or not? Can I try for few days?: For all novice applicants who have never worked with a child with disability, we will put you through a trial period to see that whether you can really work with Dev or not. You will be paid $10.00 per hour, and then it will be readjusted after trial period. Trial period is hard to predict, it could be as little as two days to as long as 1 month.

What’s the rate of $12 to $15 per hour means?: Means we will pay minimum of $12 per hour (60 minutes) and maximum of $15 per hour based on your qualification and experience.

Tell me something about benefits.

This is hourly position; it does not pay you any health and medical benefits.
Following benefits are for those individuals who can commit to work for at least 12 hours a week and 50 hours a month with Dev.

Sign on bonus is decided at the time of hire, however it is post paid. Means it will be provided at the end of commitment period (usually 5-6 month or so), we do not expect you to work every day to qualify for sign on bonus.
Free cell phone with unlimited internet (data) and unlimited text messaging service will be provided to the person who commit at least 12 hours a week with Dev.
Laptop will be yours to keep once you complete 250 hours with Dev. Laptop will have at least 4 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive and it will be brand new.

Do I need to sign a bond or anything similar to that ?: We will not ask you to sign a bond. Just like all other jobs in Virginia , this job is also employment at will. Either of the party can terminate the employment at any time.

I cannot work with $15 per hour, I need more money.: If you have adequate experience (including ABA therapy) we may hire you with more than $15 per hour; however in that case you will NOT be paid/provided any other benefits.

I am preparing for ABA Certification/Teacher licensure or I am a student of Psychology/Education, how it will be helpful to me ?: Working with Dev will allow you to learn what you learned in a classroom. And you will learn a basic foundation skill to work with a child with Autism.

I don’t have my resume ready but believe me or not , I am really interested , and do not want to loss such a opportunity, what should I do ?: We highly recommend you to send your resume, but if you are a student , never prepared a resume, or resume is a time consuming effort, and you are really interested , please drop us a line telling about yourself at jobs@devta.net and we will go from there.
